Don Costalono's Rap/Hip Hop News

  • That track that I said would be on Method Man and Redman's album is actually called "Tear It Off" and will be on the "In Too Deep" soundtrack. It is the new LL Cool J film and the soundtrack will be out on August 17.
  • Ice Cube has recently finished filming his next film, "Next Friday". Expect to see the it in cinemas and the soundtrack in stores around Christmas. Before that you can see Cube in "Three Kings" with George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg and Spike Jonze in cinemas on October 8.
  • Cypress Hill's fifth album, "V: Skull And Bone" will be out in the Fall and will feature production from DJ Muggs, DJ Premier and The Trackmasters.
  • The new album by 2Pac and Tha Outlwaz that I reported last week will have T-Boz from TLC on one track and will feature prodcution from Johnny J, Soulshock & Karlin, Tony Pizarro and more.
  • Foxy Brown's little brother, Pretty Boy has changed his name to Nino Brown. He has recently signed a record deal with Interscope/Universal/University records. The album is scheduled to drop this Fall on University Records. He plans to have 15 cuts on the album which is co-produced by him and partner Tye Fife. The album will have guest appearances from Jay-Z, Nas, Mya and Foxy Brown. He is also working on Foxy's third album which should be out in December.
  • 2Pac will have another album out in the year 2000 called "Tearz From Above". DJ and VJ, Angie Martinez will have her own album out next year too. You will probably remember her from the remix of "Not Tonight" by Lil' Kim.
  • Gee Street Records duo, 7L & Esoteric will be releasing their album in the Fall. It is titled "The Sole Purpose". Featured artists include Mr. Lif, Akrobatik, Inspectah Deck and Virtuoso. The tracks so far include "Def Rymes", "Headswell" featuring Virtuoso and "Learn from the Druid".
  • Juvenile and BG have both finished 2 more solo albums. No news on the release dates yet though.
  • The name of LL Cool J's new album is entitled "No Forgiveness" it should be out in November. Big Pun has a compilation coming out. It's going to be called "Big Pun Compilation". Busta Rhymes has another album coming out, it'll be called "The Re-Birth". And finally Phife is releasing his first single called "Bend Over" in Europe and Japan through a joint venture with Ramos Productions in New York City and Groove Attack, the German distribution company.
  • Method Man is releasing a remix album on August 3 called "Tical: The Alter Ego LP". The only problem is it will only be released in Japan and will cost $45. Thanks to Iraq-Shine for that.
  • Look out for an album by latest Wu-Tang affiliate, Cilvaringz called "The Killa B-Ching" on September 28. It will feature Method Man, Holocaust, Masta Killa, U-God, Raekwon, Born and Ghostface Killah. He is the first artist signed to RZA's european section of Wu-Tang Records and he is from Holland.
  • Inspectah Deck's album, "Uncontrolled Substance" should now drop on August 10.
  • RZA will release the second Bobby Digital soundtrack in 2000. Tracks include "Diagram Pole", "Water Beat", "Keep Your Thoughts In Motion" and "After Beat". Guests will include Killarmy, Black Knights and Ghostface Killah. I'm not sure whether this will replace RZA's solo album or not.

  • Bone Thugs-N-Harmony rapper Layzie Bone, or Steven Howse, 24, was arrested by U.S. Marshals on Monday at his Solon, Ohio home on an outstanding drug warrant, according to the Associated Press. The warrant for the Grammy-winning rapper was reportedly issued in Detroit on March 12, 1997 after Howse failed to appear there on a marijuana-possession charge. He was taken to federal court in Cleveland and released on bond.
  • DMX is a True "Ruff Ryder"
DMX is arressted for the fifth time. This time while onstage in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. Last June, the Dark Man X was arrested on charges of raping a topless dancer. In May, he was locked up on assault charges for allegedly beating a New York motorist. Also in May, he was charged with taking part in a post-concert stabbing in Denver.

On Wednesday, June 30, the Ruff Ryder and his wife were picked up on weapon possession charges after being questioned about an incident where his uncle and manager Ray Copeland, was shot in the foot at a nearby hotel. Police searched his home, uncovering a Tec-9 semiautomatic pistol, hollow-point bullets, a banned large-capacity gun clip, unspecified drug paraphernalia, and a bulletproof vest. The police also said his 14 pit bulls were being kept in violation of local laws and were turned over to the the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

And bringing you up to date, on Saturday night, July 10, DMX was taken off the stage by police in the middle of his Trinidadian concert in the Caribbean for using obscene language in public (a crime in Trinidad.) According to authorities, they had warned DMX that if he used obscene language in his show, he would be arrested and removed. DMX spent the weekend in a Trinidad jail awaiting his Monday hearing.
